Kuvira - I Want You For Earth Empire

For MegaCon, I really wanted to do a creative Kuvira poster, because she's one of my favorite characters in Legend of Korra.  This poster was inspired by the American "I Want You for US Army" Uncle Sam poster, and her hand gesture is inspired by Korra's "I'm Watching You" pose that she gave to Lin in the first season.  Her facial expression I had debated between a Kuvira version of the face Korra makes during that pose, but I ultimately leaned closer towards Uncle Sam's expression from the poster, which is closer to the face I think Kuvira would more likely make if she was trying to recruit people.  Then again, Kuvira wouldn't make that hand gesture if she was seriously trying to recruit anyone, but don't throw your logic at me. 

The rendering style of this poster is one I don't use very much because it takes a long time.  Her sketch and the Typography was done in Photoshop, then transferred into Illustrator.  Kuvira's rendering is done in with lineless shapes, and the texture are about 2-3 versions of this texture - calzephyr.deviantart.com/art/M… - with different opacities and blending modes.

EDIT 4/5/15:  Added the rest of her arm so she wouldn't look like an amputee (having the arm fade out worked for the uncle same poster but with the metal bands around her arm, it ended up not looking the way I meant for it to), changed the effect at her stomach so it's more like dust, adjusted her chin and added her Earth Empire logo behind her.
